Equestrianism is a deeply rooted and authentic Arab heritage, intertwined with the history of Arabs and Muslims in the Arabian Peninsula and with the lives of Arab tribes in their journeys and settlements, in both war and peace. Horses are among the livestock that have been connected to human life since ancient times, and they are mentioned in the Holy Qur’an in more than one surah, as well as in the Prophet’s sayings (Hadith).

Over the past four decades, efforts by numerous archaeological discoveries within the Kingdom—led by scholars and researchers from both inside and outside Saudi Arabia—have helped to introduce the Kingdom’s heritage and civilization to the world. Among those works is this book, which we are proud to present to researchers and scholars: The Arabian Horse: Origin, Evolution, and History by Dr. Majeed Khan, one of the few researchers worldwide specializing in rock art. We hope that readers find in this book rich and new information about rock drawings related to humans and horses in prehistoric eras of the Arabian Peninsula.
